Photo Planning tips

November 1, 2021.

Instagram focuses on capturing, editing, and sharing photos.  Capturing the perfect image is nearly impossible; however, with the use of planning, it can make capturing an Instagram worthy photo attainable.  Whether it be a portrait, a selfie, a group photo, a landscape, an action shot, or an up-close shot, planning is needed when taking a photo.  Using equipment can make this process easier.  For example, ring lights are a very effective form of lighting that can be used to enhance the images quality.  Lighting can alter the way an image looks, and plays a vital role when it comes to photography. If lighting isn’t optimal when taking the image, using editing apps afterwards can help fix it.

When it comes to Instagram, I try to showcase my sense of style. I will think of an outfit idea, figure out when I am going to wear it, and then plan out the type of shot I want in the outfit. Planning out your photos can help gain the interest of your followers.

The angle.

For this outfit choice, I knew I wanted to shoot a photo in a parking garage. Luckily enough, I was heading into Philly for the day, which gave me the perfect location. I decided on a leaning pose, because it would help make my socks and shoes stand out, making me appear to be taller. Angles can alter the way you appear; which can either be a good thing, or a bad thing. Planning angles to use during a photoshoot will help make a big difference in the end result. Practicing poses will help compliment your angles.

The importance of location

Selecting an interesting location will help grab a users attention, which will stop them from scrolling to look at your photo. A photo with a plain background will hinder the chances of getting someone interested in your post. Snapping photos in front of unique places, like nature, artwork, and popular locations are all examples of great backgrounds, compared to a blank wall. If you ever come across a unique spot but not photo ready, it would be a good idea to try to remember the location for future reference.

Think outside of the box in order to find the perfect background!
